Default Supermoto - Santa Cruz Mountains and South Bay

    Development Complete|__| Changes aren't likely.
Time to pull the trigger on this ride. I learned a few things the last time I did this - hopefully I will put that knowledge to good use. One thing I learned is that I like to ride more than the average bear - so I will post what I think will be the meet and greet where the average user will want to ride out from with a time.

    Where:
    • Route Info: If yer interested in going - or just want to see the route let me know and I will forward you a map.
      • "Normal" Route
        • Pre-Ride Meeting Spot: Most likely to be Corralitos Market & Sausage in Watsonville.
          • Time (to be confirmed later) approximately 1100 and kickstands up at 1130.
          • Expect 6 hours of ride time (according to google maps) This does not include "burgers and smack talk" time.
          • Estimate approximately 160 miles of riding.
          • No more than 120 miles between fuel stops.
      • "Extended" Route
        • Pre-Ride Meeting Spot: Most likely to be Hollister Hills SVRA in Hollister.
          • Kickstands up at 0830. I will be rolling at that time, even if i screw the pooch and its in my truck still. I MUST make it to the "Normal" meet spot on time.
          • Expect 10-12 hours of riding
          • I am departing from Hollister Hills SVRA to meet with everyone at the above mentioned meet spot.
          • Approximately 280 miles total.
          • No more than 120 miles between fuel stops

          • If you want to do the higher mileage with me yer welcome to, but be forwarned its a good 10 hours of riding.
          • Some of this will be in the dark - and the route is highly experimental. I have a GPS unit... And I have only managed to get completely lost with it once.
    Contact Info:
    • My cell phone number is available upon request.
    Various Disclaimers:
    • There believe there are offroad sections (think DualSport light) so MT60s again are the favored tire. I don't think there will be a lot of offroading, but there will be a lot of "dirty" paved roads.
      • The dirt will be minimal - it is not my intent to be offroad the entire trip, but I will admit I am looking forward to bringing the machine back to camp dirty.
    • I have not pre-run this route there just isn't time for me to do it.
      • A lot of this is backroads - I have a GPS unit and hopefully it will lead me in roughly the right direction.
      • The roads I picked are a mixture of roads recommended by the locals and by staring at google maps for hours.
    • You need to have some basic knowledge of the route. No one read it last time (hah I know ... likely no one will this time either) but I will need to keep the group moving by leading, not running sweep.
      • Anyone willing to run sweep on this? That would help tremendously!
      • I will go over the offroad tagging system that seems best keep the dualsporters all together at the meet and greet spots.
I am hoping some of these guys will go -> Slip and Slide Crew

And maybe some of these guys will go -> (Supermoto Junkies - Forum Down, I will update later)

Who knows maybe some of the knobbie nuts will join us as well -> CVDSR

    Stay tuned.

    ~

    Michael

Hey Mike I dont have a rear MT60 tire anymore just regular street tire on the WR, so unless i can find a decent tire for off road i dont think my street tire would manage any off road
I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

To put in perspective - The dirt I expect to encounter is no worse than what Sam is willing to take his R1 on.

I would be more worried about bending rims. Just take it easy - start at the front of the pack and fall back if people want to pass. No worries.

    None of this I promise:

Some of this map is experimental... When I hop on the PC tonight I'll forward it to ya. I asked about one section that goes through the forrested area around buzzard lagoon from one of the locals. There is a paved road around it, and the locals say there is a dirt road theough it. If I am by myself I'll go for dirt. That could end up being a long detour/backtrack session, but all the more fun for it.

I enjoy being a little lost at times.

I wish I could afford MadKawi's GoPro - I would video document the fun.

    Mike-
Have a GoPro for you to use, or I'll bring it if I can go. Need to get fresh gas through Mudpig's DR anyway. Or maybe get the FZ1 really dirty again.
    Cheers-

Well I hope it's 95% pavement I'm putting a new rear tire but it's not off road at all and I don't want to bent my rim again also
