    Default Buell Riders

not really a club, but i wanted to make a thread that all the buell guys could correspond through. I'll start off by introducing myself and how i got into buells.

My name is Ricky, Im a fresno air nat. guard vet of 6 years, recently got out in march, and am now a full time student. I got into bikes last year and wish i had done it a LONG time ago. I got my first bike in last June, a Buell Blast. I did a few mods to it (cafe bars, rejet, ign) and put about 10k miles on it between June and November, when i bought my current bike, a 96 Buell S1 Lightning (see pic to the left). This bike opened me up to a new world of vtwin umph! Ive done a few mods to it as well, XB wheels/forks/heads (stg3)/drive belt & primary sprockets/intake/exhaust/rocker covers + breathers and my most current mod (under installation at the moment) is a Veypor gauge system.

So i thought i'd make this thread so we can all get together and talk buells, and maybe organize a few Buell rides around the area as well. also parts are getting hard to come by these days, especially for those of us with older bikes like myself.

    happy buelling!

    Hey-
I'm a new Buell owner, but not by choice. At a trackday at Buttonwillow, I did a session late in the day on a friend's new 1125CR. I woke up that night in the hospital. Don't know what happened but I now own a Buell with 180miles and a broken frame and subframe.

It was all I could do financially to buy the bike, so buying parts will be awhile. After that I'm down for a Buell ride. In the meantime it's dirt or the FZ1.

    Cheers-
    Tom

Well, I"ve actually always liked Buells and thought I'd have had one by now, but, kept ending up with Triumph's. Just like my Guzzi's of the past (and present) I love that thumpy, low end grunt.

Hope to ride with you soon.......though I won't be on a Buell

    Thumbs up Re: Buell Riders

I don't remember much about the ride except the first 3 laps. My impressions:

    1. I had to 1-finger the front brake.

    2. The slipper-clutch was confidence-inspiring.

    3. The bike transitioned easier (side-to-side) than my Yamaha.

    4. It did not feel near as powerful as the Yamaha.

We'll have to ride soon Dave. You do just fine on that big ol' Beemer. And thanks for the thoughts Ray; I'm doing fine. Happened in March so the ribs are healed up now. Doctor advises me "no more head trauma for awhile, m-kay?". I'll work on it

Speaking of Triumphs and grunt, my neighbor now owns my old Daytona 1200. It's the gruntiest 4-banger I've owned. He'll prolly tag along next ride.

    Cheers-
    Tom

Well i'm pretty new to the forums but mostly all the people i know including my group of friends all own buells! I have an 08 1125r(my first and only b1k3), its a story in itself of how it came to being mine, but i love it, lots of torque and power like the rest of um! dang dud3 awsome! I just went to the track with some friends from the cvr site, and my g-frriends bro was his 1st track day not on his buell! I met a guy there on his 08 1125r and it was also his 1st track day and i cant wait to take mine! I do agree that a buell ride would be awsome!

Is that the same company started by a guy named Tad? His daughter's name was Melanie I believe, she dated my coworker Tyler Hare. He had a couple Buells (S1, X1) but Tad rode a ZRX1200. I rode Angeles Crest with him and he seemed a cool guy. I'll check out the site.

Funny you should mention it! As 1125r said I had my first track day at Buttonwillow over Memorial day weekend. I had an absolute blast and immediately started planning a Buell track day! It will be with 'the track club' on Monday, August 16'th. It seems like a long way away but it gives us all plenty of time to get time off from work, and save a little extra money for entry cost. So far we have 4 Buells confirmed going with 3 pending... I'm trying to get some of my friends from Monterrey and the bay area to recruit as well... We're trying to make this the biggest Buell track day in California!

We have trailer space for any Buells interested in going and we will have all things you will need... tools, chairs, popup tents, generator, food food and more food!

    Anyone interested??

mines about 95% track ready, i need a brace for the rear of my muffler, i found an oldschool exhaust system, since they dont make any new for my bike, but it was missing the rear brace.

tires are new, need to clean up my front rotor, i have the standard rotor chatter, you prably know what im talking about, we have the same brakes. you might have the 8pot caliper tho, i have the 6... but im only 150lbs so its grabby enough for me lol. i need to check on my pads, i think they are getting low, they have about 10k on them now.

hmm... what else, i have all the gear including a 2 piece zip together leather suit...

im only worried about my rear brake setup, the factory bracket had to be cut down to fit the xb wheels, and it twists if i get on the brake too hard :/ need to make one from billet or have it reinforced temporarily.

    cant think of anything else

My buddy Dave who will be going has a bad case of the front brake chatter. Ive ridden his bike and its bad for me (210lbs) but for him hes about your weight and doesn't mind it much. I have the 6 piston ZTL caliper, would like to upgrade to the 8 piston and brembo out back someday. Sounds like your just about ready! I have a little maintenance to do but nothing major... I just got back from MotoGP this weekend and it got me all excited about track day, cant wait to get hooked!

I have owned three XB9 Buells since 2003; love the things. I sold my last one two months ago, a garage liquidation forced by closure of our business. I'll likely own another once finances firm up.

Incidentally, I have a Helibar kit for Firebolt models, possibly for sale. Its in exceptional condition. The Helibar is discontinued now. The advantage is, it moves the 'bars rearward, closer to the steering axis, so that "tiller" effect in the steering is eliminated. Firebolts steer notably better with this upgrade. Anyhoo, its here. Ping me privately if interested, or I'll save it for the next Buell...
