The class gives a lot of information! Information you wouldn't even think about! The last class is one of the last steps though. You need to get your CCW application in first if you haven't done so. I'd suggest going threw the sheriffs department. It makes the class shorter. Sheriffs dept requires a 6 hour class and a 50 round qualifying where Fresno pd reguires 8 hour class and 100 round qualifying. Just download the application from the Fresno county website and call them and say you've already filled it out. Then they will set you up with an interview

Anyone know much about the Merced city/county part?

I skimmed their site, and the Sheriff said to go through the City.

Everything else is the same size if you use a 10 round mag with pinky extension, just a 1" shorter barrel.
The XDS comes in a 3.3 and 4in barrel..

I got my CCW from the county (Sheriff's) and it was a smooth sailing with them. They are less critical (not to be confused with just giving away CCW's) and walk you through the process. My S&W Shield 40 is a great carry. The Range is a great place to buy and practice. Also.......CCW owners, don't forget to get insurance! Even if you have justifiably used your firearm, your attacker or his family can still sue you even if you are cleared of criminal charges. It's not cheap to prove in court you were in the right.
    I think they went thata-away!

OK, I just did a little more research and found I was incorrect.

XDS I thought was the sub-compact, it is not, it is single stack like the S&W Shield. S for "slim" I guess.

    XD is the double stack

    and now I know...

I'm just a beginner, been at it for 2 weeks or so.
I have the "bifocal" dilemma, see the sights or the target, not both.

This is what is required at 7 yards to pass the CCW shooting test.

The placement of those rounds would keep them from going far... Pretty good groupings...

Thank you, going shooting again this weekend, we'll see if I can improve. Experimenting at home with an empty gun I found I was not using enough trigger finger and it was sending everything slightly left of aim. I need to use the first notch, not the first pad.

Glock27 first try at "The Range". Liked it so well I bought one. The Glock30 is also 45 ACP and both hold 10+1 rounds, however the Glock30 is a much better conceal weapon because it's smaller. I have both and have never had either jam and both are very accurate.

What day and time? I was thinking of going to the range to shoot as well. It's been awhile since I've shot off any rounds so I'm way overdue! Maybe I'll join you

There are marking on the wall at 7, 10, and 15 yards. The base of the shredded rubber pile (bullet stop) is 15 yards. I think if you run the target till it stops is 50'.

25 yards is 75 feet, ya can't get that at "The Range".

Not terribly sure which day we are going but it will be late afternoon / early evening. I'll post up when I know more.

I really never measured it. I just put up the target and moved it to its furthest away position. How far is that?
