    Bought my 07 ninja 250 less than a month ago with 14k miles.

    Today I decided to take the bike for the first time to Aubrey to get a better overall feel for the bike instead of my normal freeway driving. On my way back I noticed that tried to accelerate but there was no power (haha I know it's a 250) but it bogged and went no where. There is no speedometer on the bike right now but I was barely keeping up with normal traffic going approximately 50 mph. Here is power loss thought out the entire power band and it is more significant in the mid and high range. I'm thinking possibly the carbs? Has anyone else had his issue and what was the problem?

    Hummm... Thats odd. Did it heat up before power loss?

    250s are air cooled right?

    It has a radiator and coolant but I removed the cluster 2 weeks ago so I don't know if it was overheating :/

    It has a new k&n air filter and I did the oil change about 2 weeks ago

    Did you put the K&N on? Previously was it a stock air filter? This is a carburated buke right?

    To anyone else that may have owned one of these ... How sensitive to filter changes are they for being lean?

    It's a carburated 250 and it did have an oem air filter on before I upgraded to the k&n. I doubt that's the problem because it ran fine till today. I am hoping it's not major issue

    Honestly, it sounds like a dead batrery to me or low voltage in the charging system. Charge the battery then take it back out and see if it's still happening.
    Old sport bikes just have more character.

    Thanks Patrick, I'll give that a shot after I change the spark plugs.

    When you pull the plugs look ta see if they are black and wet or white or melted looking.

    Did everything I knew I could do on the bike and it's still not running well. Had the battery checked, new air filter, new spark plugs, oil change and filter. Even an a decent amount of seafoam into the fuel mix but still no luck. I had to drop it off at the dealership. I'm hoping it's not too expensive

    Uhhg... Das no good.

    I'm gonna guess it was lean a bit. Hopefully flex-hone re-ring it and rejet is the worst you would see. This might be a hard one to answer, did it have a fair amount of compression? If you aren't sure was it hard to start/did you have to goose the throttle to start it?

    It could be something reeeeeally lame... I had my needle clip litterally loose tension and fall off on the trailer once.

    Finally got my bike back yesterday from the dealership. Bike runs good like it did before... They said that I had a piece of debris stuck in the main jet on cylinder 2. I paid over 250 for the repair. Does anyone know of any good motorcycle shops around town with more affordable prices? Just wanting to know for future reference

    For $50 you can buy all the tools you need to fix that. If you want to save money learn to work on it. Buy a service manual for it. Mechanics charge $75-100/hour you can save a ton of money working on the simple stuff yourself if you are gentle and patient.

    Did they tell you where the debris came from?

    Monti is right there is no "cheap" way to have someone else work on your bike. Between youtube, a factory service manual, and forums you can learn to do a lot on your own. In regards to the manual get an actual Factory Service Manual produced by Kawi. Sometimes you can find them as a free download. If you have to buy a hard copy they range from $30-85 or so. But they are worth it, and so much more detailed info than something like a Clymer one.

    A little frustrating... After working a 13 hour overnight shift my bike breaks down on the freeway completely. Now it's back at the mechanics... They said I had a 30 day warranty on the work so let's see what's wrong this time...

    My mom always told me not to say anything bad about people - I think her definition would extend to dealerships...

    I hope who ever did the work for you gets its sorted an is fair with additional charges if there are any. There are some that are great... And there are some that are less then great. Fingers crossed for you.

    If the bike messes up again in the near future I'm placing it back on Craigslist. I didn't think this bike would give me so much trouble.

    It really shouldn't - but all bikes are a little bit of work. The most worry free maint. bikes are typically japanese inline fours IMO. I put 16000 miles on my CBR 1000F - I think I changed the oil three times (which I found out later was a little excessive according to the manufacturers recomendation) put one set of sport touring tires on it and rebuilt one fork cause it started leaking. Least work I have ever put into any bike I have owned.
