... Just couldn't take it anymore. Must make plans.:evilgrin0013:

I need a little input. Could ya'll let me know if yer interested and what yer piloting by voting?

If we are riding with green sticker bikes:

Lets load em up in a truck and go to somewhere we don't have to worry about getting cited for being in a mixed use area. Potential areas to ride include:

Dusy Ershim (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=37%C2%B0+4%2757.67%22N+118%C2%B057%2744.86%22W&client=firefox-a&ie=UTF8&z=9)

33 Miles GRUELING
Likely two day ride
Prolly as much pushing the bikes as riding them.
Overnighting likely (even if you aren't planning on it!)
Damage to your toy or yourself is likely.
Better have skid plates/disc guards, it is rock garden heaven.
Not for the timid or inexperienced.
You will be tired - bring LOTS of water.

Gorman

Big - more then you can ride in a day.
3.5-4 hours of trailering south on I5 to the top of the grade. (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Fresno+California&daddr=46001+Orwin+Way,+Gorman,+CA+93243+(State+of+California:+Hungry+Valley+District+Office)&hl=en&geocode=Fc-5MAIdMmvc-CmdTp5U4V2UgDERuKNJZEASew%3BFRn-EQIdYD7r-CFzvAD2yPiRZin9ubstG-fpgDHafs2uGaVa6A&mra=ls&sll=37.996163,-95.712891&sspn=50.636759,114.169922&ie=UTF8&ll=34.56199,-118.859711&spn=0.867408,1.783905&z=10)
fast moderate difficulty. Experienced and non-experienced riders can have fun out here.
Park riding - not forrested, think; dust, and high desert terrian. Manzanita bush galore!

Hollister

Medium sized - more then you can ride in a day, barely.
2.5-3 hours trailering north on 99 to 152 (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Fresno,+California&daddr=Cienega+Road,+Hollister,+CA&geocode=Fc-5MAIdMmvc-CmdTp5U4V2UgDERuKNJZEASew%3BFf6jMAIdDgDE-Cm7HiLHbxmSgDFyjwHfqJeQTg&hl=en&mra=ls&sll=36.763367,-121.39987&sspn=0.052739,0.111494&ie=UTF8&ll=36.920254,-120.827637&spn=0.842086,1.783905&z=10)
More technical than Gorman - moderate to difficult.
Experienced and non-experienced riders can have fun out here.
Park riding - lightly forrested, think; dust, and high desert terrian. Manzanita bush occasionally, some trees.

Miami Trails

Medium sized - can be ridin in a day.
1-1.5 hours up 41. (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Fresno,+California&daddr=Miami+Motorcycle+Trail+%4037.444988,-119.653498&geocode=Fc-5MAIdMmvc-CmdTp5U4V2UgDERuKNJZEASew%3BFXxdOwIdhjve-A&hl=en&mra=ls&sll=37.444988,-119.653498&sspn=0.001633,0.003484&ie=UTF8&z=10)
If you haven't been here you will like it. Most likely, unless you are hell bent on destruction or unable to ride yer machine.
Experienced riders can be challened but be bored, inexperienced riders can be easily overwhelmed not much middle ground IMHO.
Forrested - but its gonna be dusty this time of year.

Millwood

Medium/Small sized (not including all the mixed use fire roads) - can be ridin in a day.
1-1.5 hours up 180 (its right up the road from the 245/180 junction for all you street junkies) (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Fresno,+Ca&daddr=36.744682,-119.00435&geocode=Fc-5MAIdMmvc-CmdTp5U4V2UgDERuKNJZEASew%3BFeqtMAIdQiPo-A&hl=en&mra=ls&sll=36.73627,-118.980904&sspn=0.052758,0.111494&ie=UTF8&z=11)
Easy to moderate. Experienced riders likely to be bored (yes there are a few exceptions, by and large they are few IMHO) inexperienced riders would likely do fine.

If we are all riding plated dirt bikes only:

Lets just meet up somewhere up the hill that is easily found (well know resturant, lake or gas station) ditch the trucks (for those that trailered) and terrorize the streets and woodland creatures. Potential areas to ride include (in addition to anything mentioned above):

Bald Mountain (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&q=Bald+Mountain,+Sierra,+Fresno,+California+93634&sll=37.011874,-119.294357&sspn=0.420539,0.891953&ie=UTF8&cd=3&geocode=FdsoNgId1BDl-A&split=0&hq=&hnear=Bald+Mountain,+Sierra,+Fresno,+California+93634&z=14) - moderate to difficult
Shuteye Peak (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Shuteye+Peak,+California+93634&sll=37.3385,-119.243546&sspn=0.405079,0.891953&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Shuteye+Peak,+North+Fork,+Madera,+California+93643&ll=37.349111,-119.427524&spn=0.026167,0.055747&z=15) - moderate to difficult
Blue Canyon (Dunno exactly where this is ... But I'll find out if anyone is interested) - moderate
Jose Basin (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Jose+Basin,+Auberry,+CA&sll=36.942621,-118.775425&sspn=0.105231,0.222988&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Jose+Basin,+Auberry,+Fresno,+California+93602&ll=37.095991,-119.398041&spn=0.105019,0.222988&z=13) - Easy to moderate
POZO (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=35.347287,-120.295672&num=1&sll=35.332502,-120.297067&sspn=0.068936,0.188966&hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=35.337674,-120.291624&spn=0.053703,0.111494&z=14) - Easy to moderate (ok ... I'll admit I have been here once solo, but have not extensively traveled the area - but I have freinds that have they say its moderate to difficult on a big dualsport (KTM950 - BMW XChallenge), so I imagine it is moderate at worst on a little dualsport.
more? These are the only ones that I am fairly certain I can locate on my own. Suggest away!

If you noticed I didn't mention red stickers, sorry I know I am excluding some of you. If you choose to ride your red-sticker in the off season that is between you and the LEO. I bought a plated bike specifically so I did not have to wrestle with those social issues/psychological burdens. I think Pismo may be the only place you can legally ride your red sticker this time of year, and that may even be wrong... Or private land perhaps you can, but I don't own any :o. Maybe the desert/BLM land down south, but I dont have any interest in the desert this time of year.

Heh see other thread. I wanna do both days - but if I go home saturday the likelyhood she is going to let me out on sunday is not good.

And on toppa all that some guys from ADV rider I doing dusy next month and extended an invite to me. Never rode with em - they are more daring than I am inviting someone they have never ridin with on such a difficult ride, but I hope I can take em up on thier offer.:evilgrin0013: If so going out both days this weekend would all but seal the deal that the Mrs is gonna pitch a fit and say no to riding in October.

What about soun? He interested?

Anyone have thoughts on where they would like to go?

Oh ... One thing that should be taken into consideration about riding up in the forrest this weekend: It is the first weekend of open season for Deer hunters. The ranger station said the forrest around Dinky (more?) would be crawling with drunk hunters. I for one don't want to get caught out somewhere I don't belong with a drunk on the wrong end of a rifle pissed cause I scared off his 7 point shot of a lifetime.

Also my truck (if we are hauling bikes) will only fit three bikes in the bed. If you want a ride with me better make yer reservation now.

I will have to check with the wife, I am thinking it might be difficult to get a pass since I have ridden just about every weekend for the last month.

Was up near Dinkey Creek last weekend and yes there were lots of bow hunters. Also two out of four riders crashed on Mckinley Grove Road, one being heliported to Fresno, seven broken ribs, broken shoulder blade and a punctured lung the other just slid on some sand in a corner and laid it down, minor injuries.

I will let you know tomorrow if I can make it or not.

The one that fell from the sand was on a DR650 motard (street tires) the other guy that crashed was on a BMW Boxer replica. I was the only fool on knobbies.

Damn sand...

So called Sierra and Bass Lake Ranger stations... they said both shuteye and bald have green sticker trails to the top.

My only concern then is will there be enough riding to be had for all. I have heard two for bald ... I am ok with that.

Any objections?

What time do we want to meet and where?
I would like to meet no later than 0800 at the bottom of the hill, or 1000 at the trailhead.
Brady if you want a ride I wll truck up and we can split gas to the trailhead. Otherwise I will ride up.

Alrighty ... Who knows where the trailhead is? I don't.

I can likely get us to shuteye, but bald I don't know.

I have maps which are useless to me cause they list places I don't know.

I will bring a map with me to the meet and greet spot. If we cant get it nailed down I say we go somewhere like hollister.

Its fun to play around till we find something on dualsports - but not with dirtbikes. I don't want to get Brady a ticket riding on 168 hehe.

Thanks all!

Sorry you had to babysit me Byron - altitude totally kicked my arse in swamp trail. You asked if I regreted it, nope. Likey saved my arse. Just think of what we did but four times longer and more difficult +1000', that is what dusy would have been. Ya two day trip turned four day trip.

Gonna have to do some altitude acclimatization and some serious working out before I attempt that trail. I would like to MX track to get in shape for it but there is not enough time in a day to do that and keep the Mrs happy.

Also -some extra jets or jet it down the hill and truck to the top would have been nice for starting it easier at 9500'.

Here are some pics for those living vicariously - Sorry no real pictures of swamp terrian, I was too busy trying to stay in the saddle and not puking. I do have GPS tracks for some of it - maybe I can post those up. We shall see.

well, here's what I had to say when I got back...

whoa!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wow--I'm alive. Made it back just moments ago...Swamp Lake nah never made it though I'm having Viet Nam flashbacks of Rubicon; yea I've never been there either! What a rock fest not like Day On The Green; ya I wasn't there as well. So, where I was today was out for a little ride 'round Brewer OHV and the whole swamp lake thing (for awhile anyways...)

It was too hard so I quit and tried to go home. Brady, Sergio and I got lost a thousand times trying to find the easy way out (yea Michael gave someone the keys to his truck-"if I'm not back by 7:15 leave w/o us"- meaning he and Byron who soldier'd on the Swamp Lake debacle were actualy trying to finish, and on time!)

Well like I said I'm home and, frankly, I've no idea if anyone else made it out alive. But I'm hoping they did!

Thank you Work2Surf: that gave me a great starting point @ Tamarack Sno-Play to work down from, where I found the gang off on my way to Bald Mountain. Never saw it or missed it once I found the guys-

Sorry no pics, what a crappy RR. Couldn't blame you if you think it sucketh... Picture a jeep towing another jeep at the strt of the ****ty part of Swamp Lake OHV thatonly has 3 wheels! As in 1 already broke off and MR. 3 wheel has all the beer- can't let him get outta yer sight...

Fun Fun Fun- can't remember when I rode in a group of like minded fanatics- Proaly when I rode w/ Layne and friends (Vstrom guy and others) to Shuteye. Ain't nothin' quite like ridin' flat out in a group...

bring her bring the CBR it'll be fun

Hey I went dualsporting (unintentionally) with her on it this weekend. I saw the trailhead for Dusy near Mono Hot Springs too. At one point motoring along we had to get off to the shoulder for a car that didn't see us or was hell bent on running us over. The front was floating turned full to the left lock as we were sliding laterally to the left, and I was pretty steadily on the throttle and going straight - through sand. I didn't think nothing of it till later when the Mrs. commented on it.

"What a jerk - didn't even move over for us at all! I thought you were going to crash when my foot it that rock," the side of the mountain! She calls it a rock!, "I was a little scared."

My reply aloud: "Naw - we had room sorry about the rock, just keep your foot on the pegs next time."

The though racing through my head "HOLY SHINIKISH we HIT the mountian and I didn't even feel it!" That bike was so heavy it just carried right on through. The whole episode was likely under 5 mph so really it sounds worse than it was, but still... Was exciting! I even have a little scrape on the right side exhaust to show for it.

The roads up that way are dirty they are doing road work at one point waaaay past huntington at one point. It is all loose gravel. Where you see the pristine black freshly paved part stop slow the hell down immediately. The rest is all loose gravel.
