Okay, I bought a house on some land and will be needing one of these things to get around the property to grade and tame the brush and grass. I know nothing about them, other than they look like a lot of fun. :)

I'm thinking I'll need a sturdy 4x4 with good torque for gettin' up the hills and the ability to pull a trailer and maybe some sort of grooming thing behind it to keep the weeds down.

So, what are the brands to look for or to avoid. I'm hoping to buy a used one, what are the going prices for these things used?

congrats on new home.
I think get the correct tool for the task.
not sure if side by sides are worth it. ( for your needs)

I would get a bobcat or tractor with a pto ect.
your looking for a life long property tool..

just my 2 cent.

I don't think I need something that drastic. The guy who owned the property before used a Rhino ATV for the entire property.

I'm looking for a vehicle that:

the wife can operate easily.
I can use for garbage can runs out to the curb (it's a rather long driveway).
can carry things too small for a pickup, but, too big for the wheelbarrow.
provides transportation around the property and to neighboring homes.
will do light grooming work around the property.

:iagree:My brother in law picked up a "well used" bobcat for $1000. It has a spring-tooth attachment and a PTO ( I think ). Used to use it on his property up in placerville worked great. Get an old reliable tractor  they also look really simple aka easy to work on.

If you want a toy get a side by side - it'll be fun, but I think after two or three years of use/disuse it will start to fall apart. Look around at off the grid properties and how many circa 1940's tractors litter their yards. Its because they will last a LOOOOOOOONG time. Side by sides - not so long.

How long do you plan on living there?
How many acres you on?

Keep your eyes open for a Yamaha YFM660 Grizzley....they are now fuel injected 700's, so the 660's are out there used at cheap $$$....or a YXR450 or 660 (Rhino)....both will be fun and usefull!
