China Peak will be opening it's mountain biking season this weekend. First time in a long time from what I've heard. I'll be up there all day Sunday riding with some friends, and encourage anyone who's been curious about actually doing some real mountain biking to head up there and give it a shot. Lifts will be running all day taking people to the top. They are offering bike rentals, and also Herb Bauer will be doing a bike demo, so you can sign up to try out just about any make and model bike you'd like.

Who's with me!

Finally have some videos. I used the helmet cam mount, but I think I'm going to get one of the chest mounts for next time. Videos don't really do justice to the terrain either.

One more video. This is the backside, it's a little bit faster paced. Really picks up at about the 3 min mark. I started out way behind my buddies because I was messing with the camera lol.

Great Vid! Liked the "that was close" exclamation at about 8:30. I felt it too.

So how much does this cost?
Do you take your bike up on the chair lift?
Where would you get the safety gear?
Would my Giant, with no suspension, handle this?

Looks like puncture injuries from tree branches could kill you!

Was out walking with my dog yesterday and saw this off the woodward park trail. Have you rode this Jon?

Ya I rode it Saturday actually. I don't know who built it, but it looks like a great idea that never really saw any true effort. The jumps and landings and berms look like they were built by a bunch of 10 year olds. Great potential tho.

That's pretty funny. I was actually thinking the same exact thing when I was checking the place out. Still looks fun though.

I'm looking for another bike right now after my GT idrive got jacked hopefully I'll get something before china peak opens I didn't get to go up before my bike was gone... how is the terrain up there in the summer? are most of the trails pretty much dual suspension only or would a 4 inch travel hard tail be okay?

Hardtail is doable, but there are a few sections that could get quite tricky. Towards the end of the season the soil gets to be really loose.

Thats crazy man!!! Great video

We've got a buddy in Phoenix who is a Flight for Life heli pilot who does some down hill stuff. He just crashed a couple weeks ago and had to get life flighted out. Kinda Ironic! Punctured a lung, broke 6 ribs, separated shoulder, and some knarly gashes on his arm...

He gave up dirt bikes when he had kids... thought a DH bike would be a safer adventure...

Riding Sunday. China Peak got some decent rental bikes this year. $50 for the day will get you a sweet full suspension bike.

Sunday ya say huh? Hmmm, lemme see if I can make it! Do you normally go early or ???

I only got a little bit of helmet cam footage from last year. This was one of my first runs down the hill, by the time I got up to speed and could stay with my buddies at the end of the day my batteries were dead.

I usually roll in there between 9-9:30. Rode my DH bike last weekend for the first time up there and had a grin from ear to ear. Head up there Sunday bud I'd love to have some more people to ride with.
