I have been lurking around for a bit checking out the newer forum and I wanted to say hello to everyone, you all seem like a really good group - ATGATT & whutnot :D.
My motorcycle riding history started in 96" or 97" when I bought a Suzuki dr350 that I never got a chance to ride very much. It was a dual sport but I never got my M1 and didn't have allot of riding buddy's @ the time so it mostly collected dust till I sold it.
Allot of the guys I was mnt. biking/snowboarding with in 03' or so were riding dirt bikes as well so I decided to give it another shot. I did some research and ended up picking up a used 02' Honda XR400 to learn on again. I have now ridden that bike to hell and back and it still runs great. The XR's are great for the tight, twisty, loose, steep, overgrow, uphill battles that I seem to get myself into.
About a year and a half ago I felt good enough about my riding skills that I wanted to join my friends on the street bikes. So after some more research I ended up getting a 06' Suzuki SV1000 at a killer price and haven't looked back since. I know I probably should have gotten the 650 for my first street bike but @ 6'4" tall and a good 220lbs. the 650 just didn't fit me! So far I have racked up just over 15,000 miles on the ol' SV since I picked her up and have absolutely loved every one of them. I have managed to squeeze in 2 track days @ Buttonwillow in that time as well :D. I am now looking to do a fork swap off of an 06' or so GSXR 600/750 while it's still cold and rainy this winter.
Well I hope to get a chance to know some of ya on the forum and more importantly go on a ride, soon like, this is going to be one of the last warmer weekends...!

Thanks for the warm welcome all. I will be putting the ol' XR up for sale here really shortly to make room for a new dirtbike and somebody is going to get to ride her off into the sunset :D. If you know anyone interested heres the short list of mods on the XR - FMF powercore w/ quitecore insert, pro-taper highbars, white bro's wide s.s. footpegs, EBC rotors & pads, trail-tech computer, and she will have a new chain/sprocket set here shortly and I'm not looking to get a whole lot for it maybe 2k or so. I would rather see someone who needs a good bike to learn on get one than turn a profit.
I am making room for an 08' Husqvarna TE 510 that I should have hopefully by the first of the year or so. For those of you that don't know about the newer husky's, their enuro models are DOT dual sports (kinda like the newer KTM's) and have all of the killer track ready suspension and such. 50mm Marzocchi front forks, Sachs rear shock and this year they are adding fuel injection to their enduro lineup as well :), ..I was looking for the drooling smiley...
I have done 2 track days so far, both @ buttonwillow and for our next one we are looking @ late Aril or early May if anyone is interested in going along. I am not sure which track yet but probably buttonwillow. I like how close the track is and I like that they have garages available to rent purty cheap. Maybe we could organize a CVR group trackday and get a bit of a discount?? :D

When you find out what day it will be make sure to post it here as an event. I will definitely want to go with you. The garages are awesome and if you can find other folks there in the dirt most of the time they are willing to share the garage. Depending how many guys you have in the garage you can come out only paying just a few bucks for all day.

Hey. I am new to this forum, kinda new to the area, Clovis, but an old time rider. 30,000 miles in the last two years. Been riding bicycles and motorcycles for the last 40 years. Avidly on Motos for the last 2 1/2 years. Ride with the BMW Club, but mostly with a few close friends. I am happy and proud to say that I have never had any auto /Moto /Bicycle altercations in all my years and miles.
Don't do track daze, don't need to push the envelope, so to speak. Definately not a knee dragger. Enjoy longer kinda rides. Tahoe is a nice afternoon ride. Death Valley, or Mammoth a nice destination. Pretty much stay on asphalt with the road bikes. Don't mind dirt if it is on my mountain bike.
Am also a member of Pashnit. Like the adventures of Moto riding, and remember them thru photos. ;)

Hey TT,
I think I'm gonna be like you when it comes to riding.
All I can think about is taking some long rides and enjoying the sites and solitude.
Anyway, nice to meet you.

Track days are not about pushing the envelope. I think it is a safer place to be rather on the street. You don't have to put the knee down on a track, but it is fun.
The track is a great place to find the capabilities of the bike and what you can the bike together can do.

Oops. did not mean the Track daze was pushing the envelope or being foolish. I do agree that it is a great place to refine riding skills. And can be great fun too.
Been there, done that.
I just no longer have those competitive juices. Much prefer the curves that Kings Canyon might provide on the way to a great destination like Cedar Grove, or Hiway 88 to get to Lake Tahoe, or Tioga Pass to get to points East.

Welcome twisted one. That is a K-rap load of miles for two years of riding, I think I had close to 12,000 my first year on the street. You must definitely love to explore. I think I scratch that itch when I am out trail riding the dirt bike but I have def. been interested in setting up my SV to do a bit of sport touring late this summer as there really is no better way to see the country.
The track riding is definitely allot of fun and there is no better place to practice your skills on the motorcycle. It never ceases to amaze me at how fast the newer street bikes can stop, turn, and accelerate away. It has helped me to understand just what my bike is capable of and how to use it if the need arises. Ya know, emergency maneuvering as the A-hole cager merges into my lane while texting a message out on the celly, that sort of thing.
As soon as the 2008 track day schedules start to get posted I will get a hold of the guys over @ Dial-it-in or Take-it-to-the-track and see how many people we need to get any kind of discount on the track day. We can come to a decision on what date works for everyone and do the first CVR track day meet up :D:cool:. I will sport for the Garage out at Buttonwillow, if everyone is okay with that track, so we have a place out of the sun to eat & BBQ & such. I am thinking in late April or early May after it drys out but before it gets to hot would be a good time for me, as my life revolves around snowboarding most of the winter, what do you all think?

For the amount of folks that will be going to the track for the first time I think Buttonwillow will be the best track.
You don't have to wait for April or May we could do March depends on the weather tho.
Post a new thread indicating some days and we can vote on it. There are quite a few of Organization that have their 08 calender up.
