I just got myself a Tourmaster "Intake" jacket. Mesh, with a windbreaker liner and a thermal liner. Paid about $125. It's made in China, the quality is not fantastic, but reasonable. The thermal liner will nest in the windbreaker liner, or in the shell itself, the shell can be worn alone, or with the windbreaker liner, so there are four possible combinations. The jacket is rather drafty though with just the thermal, it doesn't cover all possible leaks like the windbreaker liner does. The system is kind of complicated to assemble and disassemble, but could be worse. I did a lot of research before buying this jacket, and the double liners are what sold me. It's a pretty good value for the money, and should serve me well over a wide range of temperatures.
I wear the jacket with both liners in the morning and am toasty warm, or just the windbreaker and somewhat chilly, and then put the liner(s) in my backpack for the hot ride home. In the heat, as long as I'm moving, it's pretty nice (well, about as nice as it gets in Fresno in the summer)- doesn't seem much warmer than roasting in the sun with just a t-shirt. Either way, it's better than the black leather jacket I was wearing before. Which itself was better than road rash and sunburn.
Got a new jacket? An opinion? Looking for recommendations? Lets hear from you.
