DAYTONA BEACH, Florida - All of the qualifying lap times for #6 Mat Mladin and #22 Tommy Hayden were disallowed from the Friday Group A Superbike qualifying session at Road Atlanta for use of non-homologated crankshafts.

The most well-known use of homologation among hotrodders is in reference to NASCAR racing. When NASCAR was first formed, all cars participating in NASCAR races had to be constructed of parts available to the general public, and every model had to come from a model run of which 500 cars were made available to the general public. This helped ensure that "stock car" racing remained "stock".

As NASCAR gained popularity, American car manufacturers were designing cars simply to win NASCAR events. Since homologation requirements compelled them to release a certain amount of each model to the public, a limited number of high-performance cars made their way into the marketplace, and helped to fuel the muscle car era.

burnt once...pay a fine..
burnt twice... cheaters who should know better..
I say ban the guy responsible..

ither way pull the points from last 2 races..
and if you do it again..banned from the sport...

this is not a rider issue..
riders at this level have no idea whats inside the motor..
it is a team issue..

it's hard to imagine they'd try and pull the same thing 2 races in a row. i agree it's not the riders but unfortunately, they'll have to pay. i wonder how spies isn't getting caught up in this.

Maybe it's just me, but I find it kinda strange that Suzuki/Mladin have been the most vocal about the kooks like Edmondson/DMG and now all of a sudden they're "out of compliance".

Edmondson was run out of town several years ago, sued the AMA and got a buttload of cash.
Now he's back and in charge of American road racing? WTF?

The recent AMA race was awesome with the drama leadin up the race. If Matt's appeal is to be rejected, he would lose. All Ben had to do was coast in this race and place close in the upper spots.

Well, Ben had a bad start and was in black flag to come in and do a penalty lap by coasting in the pit lane at 50 mph while bikes were going by. Now the pressure was on for Ben because he was now in 13th place. He couldn't place there and leave it up for AMA officials incase Matt's appeal was granted.

So Ben rode like a mad man and started reeling everybody in. The horsepower just showed in his suzuki by passing all them hondas and yamahas. He went from 13th to 2nd before the race ended. That was good for him and the points just in case. But wow, did he ride.
